Finding The Right Setting For Your Civil Wedding Ceremony

Whether for religious or personal reasons, each year thousands of couples get married in civil ceremonies around the world. Traditionally held in a courthouse or in the offices of a civil official (called an officiant), the modern civil ceremony takes place anywhere that suits the modern bride's decorative wedding vision.
You've probably seen news magazine specials or cable television programs about "Wacky Weddings" or elaborate ceremonies involving unusual activities. While those ideas are certainly original - and fun! - most modern brides can probably use something a little longer on class and elegance and a little shorter on whimsy and daring. So here's five suggestions:
National parks offer some of the most gorgeous scenery available, making their vistas and atmosphere perfect for weddings of any size. Most have restaurants and hotels available adjacent to their grounds, so that guests are just a short shuttle bus ride away.
Check with the park you want to use about reservations and availability times.
A historic mansion
From the 1880s to the end of the 1920s, the nation's richest business tycoons and commerce barons built themselves incredible homes in many areas of the country. Most of these former residences have been converted into public museums and commemorative areas, and most are available for private function rental. Some need deposits, however, and some also require reservations months in advance.
At your city zoo
This might seem a strange choice at first, until you remember how much work and preparation goes into constructing some of the better zoos' most elaborate pavilions and attractions. The zoo also provides a great reception locale, as guests can interact with the animals and relax during your celebration.
An amusement park
You don't have to get married while riding the roller coaster - unless you want to! For those couples that were always a little more daring in spirit, the amusement park is a great way to treat their guests to some fun while enjoying the wedding ceremony and reception. Many parks already cater to private functions, and have specialists on staff to help plan your event.
In a train station or on a train
Like in old movies, trains have a grace and romance that's hard to describe. Many train stations proudly retain the beauty and architecture of bygone eras, making them a gorgeous site for a civil ceremony. Some have galleries and private rooms to hold the ceremonies - some even have complete restaurants. After the ceremony or reception, the bride and groom can board a train directly for their honeymoon.
